Another top-three Qualifying for Kevin Horgmo on Sardinia

F&H Kawasaki Racing Team’s Kevin Horgmo earns third-choice of start-gate for the third time this season in the eighth round of the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Riola Sardo on Sardinia.

Already third-fastest during practice the blonde Norwegian chose a tactical central start-gate for the Qualifying race and utilised the sweeping line through the rapid first turn to come out top-three and remain there throughout the twenty-minute-plus-two-lap race in a breakaway of the fastest riders. He even managed to get alongside the rider in second place at one stage but, with temperatures high and a rugged track, he sensibly did not take any risks to come home a comfortable third. It was his fifth consecutive top-five finish, three of those third, in Qualifying.

Kevin Horgmo: “Today was another good day. I had a good feeling with the track immediately in practice and got a great start in Qualifying. The track is already rough but the bike felt awesome. I almost passed Bénistant for second but it didn’t quite come off so I settled for third; that’s another good gate-pick for the GP motos. It’s going to be a heavy race tomorrow; I think it will be a matter of survival and the key is to ride smoothly. Let’s go for it!“

A collision on the first lap of MX2 Qualifying left Big Van World MTX Kawasaki’s Mikkel Haarup trailing the field initially but the Dane confirmed the speed he had shown during the morning training sessions to advance through the pack impressively to finish eighth.

Mikkel Haarup: “I got a decent start but Everts fell right in front of me after a few corners and I couldn’t avoid him. That left me last but I felt strong to come back through the pack to eighth; that will be OK for the start tomorrow. It was already pretty hot today but that suits me as fitness will play a role and I know I am one of the
strongest. “

Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP’s Ben Watson raced on the edge of the top-ten throughout FIM World MXGP Motocross Championship Qualifying, eventually taking the chequered flag fourteenth.

After narrowly missing the holeshot 9MM Energy Drink BUD Racing Kawasaki’s Amandine Verstappen held fourth place until losing one position on the final lap of the opening moto of the FIM World WMX Women’s Motocross Championship round. Her BUD teammate Quentin Marc Prugnières scored a career-best fifth in the first moto of the FIM European EMX250 Championship event with a hard-charging ride from eighth on the opening lap while Eddie Jay Wade missed the points by just one position despite gaining ten places during the race after an awkward first lap. The second moto of both series take place tomorrow morning.
