28 August 2012 Superb Buchan Shines at Cadwell Park

This Bank Holiday Monday saw the annual Cadwell Park round of the British Superbike Championship take place. What is normally a race drenched in sunshine, this year tricky conditions prevailed as showers throughout the day caused many riders problems.
One rider who managed to shun any such conditions in Race 1 was MSS Bathams Kawasaki rider Danny Buchan. After qualifying a terrific 6th in only his second outing on the full blown Superbike, Danny converted his achievement into an amazing 4th place! Was it not for taking a couple of laps too long to pass John Kirkham, a podium was definitely on the cards for the 19 year old.

Race 2 saw Danny unfortunately crash out at the mountain section, but was again showing promise by running with the early leaders.

Danny Buchan: “The first race was fantastic, we have been testing a lot and I feel much more comfortable on the Superbike. At Brands I was a bit nervous as it was my first race on the bike and I wasn’t 100% fit, but here at Cadwell I felt relaxed and getting fourth was a brilliant result. Looking back I think I could possibly have overtaken Kirkham earlier, but that’s experience. Falling off in the second race was disappointing but I was up at the front again and now I can’t wait for Donington Park.”

Another surprise of the weekend, was the return of the "Bomber" Karl Harris, riding for Quattro Plant Kawasaki. After having hardly ridden competitively for quite some time, Harris managed to qualify in an excellent 5th, and then take a 7-9 scorecard in both Superbike races. A great result for the team, as they have been struggling for results all year - hopefully a turn in fortune for them.

There was further success for Kawasaki in the National Superstock 1000 class, where the Ninja ZX-10R took both first and second places. Paul Bird Motorsport's Keith Farmer continued to show what a capable rider he is by taking yet another win, and extending his Championship lead to 10 points over Jason O'Halloran. Finishing just behind Keith, after a thrilling dual between the two, was returning Kawasaki rider Joe Burns.

Certainly a rider to watch for the future, Lee Jackson, continued to impress in the Junior Superstock class aboard his Ninja ZX-6R. He commanded another race win, and now only lies a race wins worth of points behind the Championship leader.
