3 February 2015 Kawasaki joins forces with Bike Trac

Kawasaki Motors UK has announced a tie up with Bike Trac, a vehicle tracking system designed specifically for motorcycles.
Part of the Road Angel group based at Silverstone circuit in Northants, Bike Trac have established themselves as a major player in the specialist market of motorcycle tracking.

With motorcycle theft a sadly an ever-present threat an average of 26,000 motorcycles are stolen in the UK every year. Bike Trac was launched in 2009 and was developed in-house by a team of passionate motorcyclists as the first full-function tracking product to be designed specifically for motorcycles and not an adapted car-derived system.

“We are trying to keep ahead of the criminals”, says Kawasaki’s Marketing Manager in the UK, Mark Spiller. “Already we are a founding member of the Master Security scheme which means all new Kawasaki’s in the UK come with Master Security markings and transponders. What we are doing now is taking things to the next level alongside Bike Trac.

We quickly established that the unfortunate theft of a motorcycle is an intensely personal experience for owners. What Bike Trac does is add that extra layer of security at the front end, the ability to actively track a bike and, in most cases, recover it and, ideally, apprehending the people that stole it.”

Small, discreet and lightweight, Bike Trac can be fitted in numerous locations, another barrier in the way of a determined thief. In its first year on the market over 90% of all the equipped machines stolen were successfully recovered.

“In terms of technology there are four headline systems, GPS, GPRS, GSM along with RF technology plus we now have Thatcham Category six and seven ratings thanks to our multi-tier technology”, explained Bill Taylor of Bike Trac.

“The unit itself not only notifies the user should their bike be moved via text, email and telephone call, but it also allows precise location data to be given to the authorities – crucial when requesting a Police search warrant.

We don’t just see the concept of Bike Trac as being purely about theft though; it’s a great tool for riding too. Thanks to its 24/7 web portal an owner can log-in at any time and re-trace the route of their last ride, download data and even share it.”

Mark Spiller concluded by explaining that the cost of a unit and fitting to a Kawasaki motorcycle could easily be balanced with a discount on an insurance renewal.

“We’ve recently announced Kawasaki Insurance as part of the overall care package riders can call on. I am delighted to say that, with a Bike Trac fitted, Kawasaki owners can rely on a minimum discount of 10% on their renewal and possibly more. It’s just another way we are trying to make the ownership experience more wallet-friendly and, with Bike Trac and Master Security as partners, more secure”
