Founded in 2021 by Mike Duxbury and Ness Shillito, Inclusive Farm CIC was established to address the growing need for diversity and inclusivity within the world of agriculture. Coming from a family of farmers, Mike has been registered blind since he was a child but has still forged a long and successful career in agriculture, so he knows first-hand the challenges and opportunities that the sector can provide and is on a mission to show that people with disabilities can be just as effective.
Originally beginning in Bedfordshire, Inclusive Farm has recently partnered with Aberdeenshire-based charity The MacRobert Trust to open a 22-acre farm in Cromar, creating the Inclusive Farm Scotland at MacRobert, which has recently gained full charity status (Charity No SC053902). The site will be used as a training space for people living with disabilities, giving them the skills and experience needed to begin a career in agriculture.
Upon meeting Mike, Kawasaki UK was immediately impressed with the ambition and goals of the Inclusive Farm brand and wanted to show its support by donating a Mule SX 4x4 utility vehicle for use around the farm. The 22-acre site will be carefully mapped out and plotted using the latest geo-mapping technology, and the Mule will be equipped with GPS sensors and cameras, ensuring Mike and other students will always know exactly where they are while being able to avoid obstacles and livestock.
The Mule has already proven an essential addition to the farm, allowing the team at Inclusive Farm Scotland at MacRobert to tend to their sheep, check boundaries, remove fallen trees and ensure trails are clear, and countless other daily tasks.
Simon Riches, Product Manager - ATV & Mule, Kawasaki UK
“Having got to know Mike and Ness in recent times, it is fantastic to see their passion and drive for creating Inclusive Farm, which provides an opportunity for people with disabilities to learn and gain the confidence to pursue a career in farming. We at Kawasaki UK are very happy to support Mike and Ness at Inclusive Farm Scotland at MacRobert in this worthy cause.”
Mike Duxbury, CEO at The Inclusive Farm:
“I really can’t thank Kawasaki enough for the support they have provided. It’s a brand I’ve always admired, as growing up on a farm, we had motorcycles as kids, and the very first one our family owned was a Kawasaki!
From the very first chat we had at the show, they have been invested in what we’re doing at the Inclusive Farm and eager to help, and the Mule has already proven to be an invaluable workhorse. It’s the ideal machine for our farm, and the manoeuvrability and performance are second to none, allowing us to showcase accessibility farming in its truest sense.”
