20 July 2015 Kawasaki BSB Race Report: Round 6 - Brands Hatch GP

It was a demanding weekend for Kawasaki’s track-based Team Green at round six of the British Superbike Championship at Kent-based circuit, Brands Hatch – while Anvil Hire TAG Racing Kawasaki’s Richard Cooper got his best ever result at the track, Championship leader Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne crashed out of race one and Stuart Easton, his PBM Kawasaki team mate also tumbled in a separate incident at Hawthorns.
Race one of the BSB Championship saw a multitude of crashes including both PBM Kawasaki riders. Both Shakey and Easton crashed out in separate incidents at Hawthorns – Easton on lap four and Byrne on lap 11. Unfortunately, Stuart broke his ankle in the crash meaning he could not make the start grid for race two – we wish him a speedy recovery.

It was a return to the podium for GBMoto’s James Ellison who took third place in race one, despite racing with his rib injuries sustained in a crash at Snetterton.

It was a fantastic result in race one and two – and his best to date in the MCE British Superbike Championship – for Anvil Hire TAG Racing Kawasaki’s Richard Cooper who stormed to a double podium taking 2nd place in race one and 3rd in race two. A fantastic result for him and the team – his previous best was a seventh place at Oulton Park. The Nottinghamshire rider is now propelled into the race for a spot in the Showdown as he now sits in 8th place on the leader board.

Shakey took 2nd place in race two, followed by Richard Cooper in 3rd and James Ellison in 4th – Quattro Plant Kawasaki rider, Luke Mossey finished in 7th and made it four Kawasaki riders in the top 10.

In the Superstock 1000 class, Josh Elliott was very close to taking another win on his ZX-10R, but crashed out on the last corner of the last lap. He still retains his lead in the championship by 22 points.

In the Junior Superstock class, Leicestershire-lad, Tarran Mackenzie won his second race in a row on his Team WD40 ZX-6R to close in on the Championship chase – he now sits in 3rd place at the halfway point through the season.

Ross Burridge, Senior Racing and Marketing Co-ordinator, said: "It was certainly a tough weekend for Kawasaki riders, and I would like to wish Stuart Easton a fast recovery from what was a very nasty looking crash. However, there were great results from Richard Cooper and Tarran Mackenzie, along with Shakey fighting back in race two with a podium after his huge crash in race one. We move towards Thruxton still in a solid position in all four Championships".

The next round takes place at Thruxton on July 31 – August 2. For more information or to book your tickets, visit: www.britishsuperbike.com
