4 March 2013 Four rider KMR Kawasaki squad in 2013

Ryan Farquhar has announced that his KMR Kawasaki squad will be on the grid in 2013 with new sponsorship from Vauxhall Northern Ireland’s dealerships and a line up of no less than four riders.
The team compromises, Jamie Hamilton, Connor Behan, Brian McCormack and James Cowton who will between them contest Superbike, Superstock and Supertwin races using Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and ER-6f based machinery exclusively.

Racing in all-new red, black and white Vauxhall NI livery, the Farquhar team will also continue to enjoy the support of the loyal sponsors that helped to achieve so much success over a number of years. The new sponsorship deal, provided by the 12 Northern Ireland dealers of the giant car manufacturer, will provide the Dungannon-based squad with a major financial package in a unique local partnership.

‘The NI dealers are putting their money into this initiative as a group because Ryan is a “home boy”.’ Regional Operations manager Gordon Hannen explained. 'Road racing is huge in Ireland and Ryan has more experience in the sport than almost anyone else so younger riders in his team will be able to benefit from his expertise. He runs a super professional set-up and after we saw what he achieved with the support that we provided last season we simply wanted more of the same for 2013.’

Of the riders, 21 year old Hamilton, the fastest newcomer at last year’s Isle of Man TT, will continue with Farquhar's team for a second year and will again have a Superstock-spec Ninja ZX-10R Kawasaki and 650cc ER-6 Kawasaki at his disposal for the Superbike and Supertwins classes.

In addition, he will now also contest the Supersport races for the team on a Ninja ZX-6R Kawasaki, which has been supplied by John Duggan who assisted Farquhar on a number of occasions in recent seasons. 22-year old Hamilton will contest the main International road races - the Isle of Man TT, North West 200 and Ulster GP - along with a full season of Irish Nationals, the Southern 100 and three meetings at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough.

Cheshire rider Connor Behan joins the team for his first full season of road racing and will contest both the Junior and Senior Irish Support race championships where he will ride a 650cc Kawasaki in the former and one of the new 2013 model year 636cc Kawasaki’s in the latter. Having previously competed at the Southern 100, he will also make his debut at the Manx Grand Prix later in the year. The 22-year old has a strong short circuit background with highlights including finishing third in the 2011 National Superstock Championship on a Team Green Kawasaki and fifth in the 2008 125cc British Championship.

"Retaining Jamie was always a main priority so I'm delighted to have done just that and thanks to the input of John (Duggan), we've been able to add a 600cc Supersport machine to the stable”, said Farquhar.” He did a great job for the team in his debut year in 2012 and I have every confidence he'll progress even further up the results in 2013 and continue to make a huge impression on the road racing scene.

Having previously excelled in the British Championship, Connor made it known to the team that he was keen to make the switch to the roads and we've been able to give him the platform to do just that. He has links with Kawasaki from his time in the Superstock 600cc Championship and with Kawasaki looking to give their 636cc machine good exposure; it's the perfect partnership for all concerned."

Brian McCormack will be joining the squad for a concerted attack on both the International and National road races.

Former Irish Superbike and reigning Adelaide Masters Champion, McCormack has made good progress since switching his main attention from the short circuits to the roads and is now a regular at both the International and National road race meetings, enjoying strong results at both. Having found himself without a ride over the winter months, the 29-year old Waterford based rider is a strong addition to the team and will ensure further presence in the 1000cc classes when he competes on the machines that team principal Ryan Farquhar rode in 2012.

McCormack is scheduled to contest all three Internationals - the Isle of Man TT, North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix – as well as selected Irish National road races on both Superbike and Superstock ZX-10R Kawasaki machines.

Farquhar commented, “I got talking to Brian at the recent Adelaide Awards night and when I found out he was without a ride, we started to put the wheels in motion. I’ve known him for a good few years now and had some good battles with him so I know what he’s capable of and we’ve put together a good package for the season."

Cowton joins the team on the back of an impressive 2012 season that saw him not only claim a dominant victory in the Lightweight Newcomers Manx Grand Prix but also claim a stunning 4th in the main Junior race where he posted a hugely impressive lap of 115mph. With strong results at the Southern 100 and Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough as well, it’s easy to see why the 21-year old is seen as one of the brightest young talents on the pure road racing scene.

The Yorkshire rider will campaign a 650cc ER-6 Kawasaki Supertwin for the team and will make his International debut at the North West 200 whilst also returning to the Manx Grand Prix. He will also be competing at the Southern 100 and Oliver’s Mount once more whilst selected Irish National road races have also been pencilled in.

Farquhar concluded, “I’m delighted to welcome young James to the team and he’ll ensure we’ll have further presence at both the International and National road races during the course of 2013. His signing further highlights our team ethic of bringing on young riders and at just 21 years of age, he fits the bill perfectly. He’s already shown tremendous potential and the Supertwin will be the ideal machine for him to make his debut at the North West 200 and is sure to take him to strong results at all other meetings."
