5 October 2015 Double British Superstock title wins for Kawasaki

It was a weekend of celebration for the Kawasaki Superstock 1000 and 600 teams as track-based Team Green riders won both the Superstock 1000 and Superstock 600 championships with one round to spare at Silverstone.
Morello Racing rider, Joshua Elliott had an impressive weekend and finished in a strong second place to maintain his place at the top of the Superstock 1000 Championship table with 220 points meaning he’s won the championship with one round to spare. The top-ten was full of Kawasaki ZX-10R machines with Connect Kawasaki Josh Wainwright finishing in seventh place, MSS Colchester Kawasaki’s Jesse Trayler in eighth place and Ben Godfrey from BPG Racing finishing in ninth.

Essex-born Mason Law won the Superstock 600 Championship by finishing in second place aboard his NMT No Limited Kawasaki ZX-6R, Andrew Irwin raced to finish in fifth place and Brad Jones crossed the line in sixth.

Ross Burridge, Senior Racing and Marketing Co-ordinator, said: “To win the Superstock 600 and Superstock 1000 championships with one round to spare is a testament to the riders, the teams and also to the ultra competitive stock ZX range. Being top of the table in the stock classes shows that the ZX-10R and the ZX-6R are race bikes out of the crate. It’s been a great season for Mason Law and Josh Elliott – well done guys.”

Silverstone was host to the penultimate round of the MCE British Superbike Championship this weekend – with both Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and James Ellison in the Showdown and a few changes to the teams – with the addition of Luke Stapleford to the JG Speedfit team for the final two rounds and Danny Buchan to PBM team – there was plenty going on for track-based Team Green.

In race one of the British Superbike class, Showdown-competitor Shane Byrne crossed the line in second place and JG Speedfit rider, James Ellison finished in 5th after struggling with rear grip during the race. In his maiden superbike race, Luke Stapleford finished in 16th place after securing the Supersport championship on the Saturday.

Stapleford improved his position in race two and finished in 12th place aboard the ZX-10R, PBM rider Shakey raced to finish in fifth place and unfortunately due to the rear grip issues that had plagued him in race one, despite running at the front and setting a new lap record, Ellison ended the race in 17th place.

Shakey is now 47 points behind Championship leader and James Ellison is in third place with 573 points.

In the Supersport class, Northern-Irish lad, Glenn Irwin raced to finish third in race one and took the top step of the podium in race two on his Gearlink Kawasaki. Team-mate and Lincolnshire-man, Ben Wilson finished seventh and fourth respectively and Luke Hedger crossed the line in ninth in race one and sixth in race two. Glenn is now third in the Supersport Championship with 304 points.

Ross Burridge, Senior Racing and Marketing Co-ordinator, said: “As with most race weekends, it’s been a mixed bag! It’s great to see youngsters such as Luke Stapleford getting chance to compete in the superbike class – and to perform as well as he did is impressive.

“On the other hand, it’s a shame that our boys in the Showdown didn’t get the results they were looking for this weekend. But, it's onwards and upwards to the final round at Brands Hatch GP – which should make for some seriously close and exciting racing.”

The next round takes place at Brands Hatch GP on October 16-18. For more information or to book your tickets, visit: www.britishsuperbike.com
