KAWASAKI MX2 RACING TEAM

KAWASAKI MX2 RACING TEAM

The Monster Energy Kawasaki MX2 Racing Team rebuilds in 2017 as outstanding teenagers Adam Sterry and Stephen Rubini join gritty Bulgarian Petar Petrov for the FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship.

The team was initially established by Jean Jacques Luisetti as CLS to provide a platform for promising young French riders to enter the world stage. Kawasaki Motors Europe soon recognised the competence of the team, which was promoted to the status of Kawasaki's offficial MX2 team in 2009, moving its operations to the Netherlands one year later, and was renamed to its current title last year to reflect the input of KME, Kawasaki Japan and team title sponsor Monster Energy.

The team secured its first GP victory and FIM World Championship medal with Steven Frossard in 2009 and built on those achievements as it secured further medals in the next two seasons with Tommy Searle. When Searle was forced to move to the MXGP class in 2013 because of the FIM age restriction ruling for competitors in MX2, the team sought fresh talent and achieved further success with Arnaud Tonus from Switzerland, French youngsters Dylan Ferrandis and Jordi Tixier, US teenager Thomas Covington and Bulgarian Petar Petrov.

Despite the success of the team whilst based in the Netherlands Jean Jacques Luisetti, a native of Provence where he had established one of Europe's leading Kawasaki dealerships, agreed with Kawasaki Motors Europe to move the team base to a new state-of-the-art facility in those more temperate climes for 2017 and a new management structure has been put in place with Mickael Maschio, Kawasaki's 2002 125cc world champion and a long-time friend of team boss Luisetti, returning to the fold as rider-coach, his relationship with outstanding next generation talent Stephen Rubini having already been established last year. Fred Lavergne, a pivotal figure in Kawasaki's success a decade ago, also returns as technical chief in the closely-knit French outfit. The continued intense involvement of Kawasaki Motors Europe and title sponsor Monster Energy plus technical support from Kawasaki Japan ensures that the team enters 2017 confident of further success and a determined challenge for the MX2 world title.
