Kirsty had never been interested in bikes before, but when Darren asked if she might help with a bit of social media at the very start of the team, things quickly snowballed. “It escalated into doing everything you now see for FS-3 Racing. The clothing, the branding of the trucks, hospitality, looking after VIP guests, sponsor events throughout the year, and most of what you see trackside.”
She also coordinates logistics, describing her role with a smile: “Behind every good pair of gentlemen is one lady looking after them both, and in this case that’s me.”
The part of the job she enjoys most is the teamwork. “I love that we’re all together making it happen. When you see the results, it makes all the effort worthwhile.”
When it comes to favourite circuits, Kirsty names Oulton Park as one she particularly enjoys, but says she also loves the annual Motorcycle Live NEC bike show at the end of the year. “It’s a nice time for everyone to get back together, spend time with the team from Kawasaki UK and get ready for the new year.”
Her standout BSB memories include Rory Skinner’s ‘home’ podiums at Knockhill, Scotland. “That whole year with Rory was really special. Danny Buchan getting our first Superbike win too, but I was gutted I missed that round because I was in hospital with my son so I ended up watching it on my phone.”
Asked what she would change, Kirsty admits an extra pair of hands would be useful: “A second me would be handy to get everything done in time but this year in particular, we’ve got such a great team both in the garage and back at the workshop, I genuinely don’t think I’d change anything.”
As for riding herself, she says she would love to give it a go: “What I’d really like is for a few of the FS-3 ladies to take our tests and do it properly. I did have a pillion ride in my first year - never again! But I’m glad I did it, because now when I put people on pillions, I know what they're experiencing so I’m glad I did it.”
